Gardenieres: Sustainable Vegetable Gardening
William Moss checks in with Ashton Ritchie of Serenbe Farms about sustainable vegetable gardening. William and Ashton talk about some great tips to keep your garden green and environmentally friendly.
The community at Serenbe has a passion for sustainability. You can see their commitment to a sustainable lifestyle in the housing, planting, and design of the farm. Little things like composting, adding mulch to the to soil, holds in moisture in the garden and keeps the water level even through out the growing season. Their vegetable garden is an efficient use of space with herbs, tomatoes, collards, peppers, onions, spinach, and arugula grown in close quarters. Interplanning like this enables crops to work in conjunction with each other, helps protect the garden from predators, and provides crops all year long. Little things like using Miracle gro Shake and Feed, which releases nutrients slowly into the soil, help keep this self sustaining veggie garden grow all summer long.
Gardeniere Tip of the Day: Tip Add compost every time you plant. Fresh compost will help keep the soil healthy, moist, and help plants grow faster and evenly.
