Creating a Sustainable Garden – Honokaʻa
A small group of Honokaʻa High School Students under the alakaʻi of Aunty Jenn “Limu Kohu” are starting a sustainable garden to help feed the students at Honokaʻa. These eager students cleared a small plot of land last week and prepared the land for planting.
Hololani Creations was invited to help with this project and humbly accepted. As a group, we got the first round of ʻai in the ground yesterday (July 6th, 2016) including nīoi (chili pepper), olena (tumeric) and kalo (taro). Of course we also planted Kī (Ti-leaf) ma nā kihi ʻehā, at the four corners of the plot, and along the perimeter.
Stay tuned for future progress on this sustainable garden! We are very excited for this journey and this partnership to help provide for the keiki, and to teach the youth about sustainable gardening.
